  • Applications for assistance from this program can be made at any time, as long as the student has a clear plan and is aware of the application process and calendar for their chosen university and course.

Description:

  • The Thabyay Small Grants Initiative Program aims to help Myanmar students cover the fees and costs of applying for universities and scholarships. The Thabyay Small Grants Initiative Program is not a scholarship program. It does not provide scholarships for study at university, but it seeks to fill the gaps that other scholarship programs do not cover.
  • Applicants can apply for one or more of the following four kinds of support:
    • The cost of internationally accredited examinations that are required as university entrance qualifications. (eg TOEFL, IELTS, GED), including the costs of travel and accommodation to take these tests.
    • University Application Fees
    • Charges related to university entrance exams and interviews and the travel and accommodation costs required to attend.
    • The costs of obtaining a passport and an appropriate student visa. This can include domestic travel within Myanmar as well as charges for the translation and authentication of documents.
    • The costs of conducting research during Master and PhD studies. 

Eligibility and Restrictions:

  • Applicants must be citizens of Myanmar
  • Applicants must intend to study a Bachelors, Masters, or PhD program within the Asian region but outside of Myanmar. Applicants are asked to provide details of the program or programs that they intend to apply for. Applicants already studying at university are not eligible to apply for Category 1 support but may be eligible for other Thabyay Small Grant Initiative Programs.
  • Applicants seeking assistance for short term training programs are not eligible.
  • All applicants must have completed high school and have strong oral and written English language skills.
  • All applicants must intend to return to Burma upon completion of their studies to work for human development, peace, or ethnic reconciliation.
  • The program is based on financial need. Students who can afford to cover these basic costs themselves are not eligible for financial support.
