The National Taiwan University of Science and Technology was founded on August 1, 1974, as the National Taiwan Institute of Technology (NTIT). It was the first higher education institution of its kind within our nation’s technical and vocational education system. By extending this system to the highest level, this new school was intended to meet the need created by our rapid economic and industrial development for highly trained bachelor’s degree-level engineers and managers. In 1979 and 1982, NTIT added master’s and doctoral programs, respectively.

On August 1, 1997, NTIT was upgraded to university status and changed its name to the “National Taiwan University of Science and Technology,” also known as “Taiwan Tech.” At that time, the school reorganized itself into five colleges. After thirty years of growth and evolution, currently, Taiwan Tech is comprised of six colleges, including engineering, electrical and computer engineering, management, design, liberal arts & social sciences, and applied science.

Taiwan Tech has five campuses: the main Taipei campus and branch campuses at Tu-Cheng, Keelung, Gong-Guan, and Chupei, with a combined total area of 29.44 hectares. The main campus, situated in a district of Taipei with convenient transportation and beautiful surroundings, covers an area of about 10 hectares. Current enrollment includes 5,605 undergraduates and 4,902 graduate students with 415 full-time faculties.

Our vision is to build Taiwan Tech into an international applied research university producing high-tech and management personnel with the ability to compete on a global level, thus supporting the future growth of our nation and society.

Our overall goals are to employ multifaceted excellence, innovative expertise, technology integration, and holistic education on the platforms of intelligent green building technology and creative design while recruiting internationally-renowned professors to help us achieve cutting-edge breakthroughs in all aspects of our teaching and research. National Kaohsiung University of Science and Technology (NKUST) was established on February 1, 2018 by the merger of three universities: National Kaohsiung University of Applied Sciences,National Kaohsiung First University of Science and Technology, and National Kaohsiung Marine University,
becoming the largest technological university in Taiwan.

As a technology university, NKUST has incorporated the strengths of the three former universities — strong connections with industries, innovation and entrepreneurship, and ocean technology – into the new university and realized synergies through integrating complementary resources and functions.

As the result of the merger, NKUST not only incorporates the strengths of the three universities—strong connections with industries, innovation and entrepreneurship, and ocean technologies—into the new university, but it also has great advantages in the aspects of vast campuses, strong human resources, complementary resources, and diverse cultural assets, which makes a lively and vigorous academic community and learning environment for students. With the merger, the university hopes to integrate all the resources and to cultivate more excellent technological professionals and lead the business and industry development in southern Taiwan.

NSYSU is comprised of seven colleges: Liberal Arts, Science, Engineering, Management, Marine Sciences, Social Sciences, and Si-Wan. The university places equal emphasis on both teaching and research of Humanities, Sciences, and Engineering. Since 2006, NSYSU has received additional funding from the Ministry of Education (MOE) through the “Aim for the Top University Plan” and “Higher Education Sprout Project” to enhance teaching and research. Outstanding academic achievements exhibited by many departments have landed NSYSU among the world’s top universities in many academic rankings.

The NSYSU campus uniquely situates at the crossing of hills and sea, adjacent to the Kaohsiung Harbor. The geography prompts our feature advancements in marine science research, which heeds to Kaohsiung’s aspiration to develop into an Ocean Capital, as we become the leading academic institution of marine sciences in Taiwan. NSYSU has sister-university agreements with over 250 universities from more than 40 countries around the world. Within these partnerships, we engage in student exchange, dual degree programs, joint supervision, research collaborations, and joint symposiums. We dedicate to create an internationalized campus where over 1,200 international students come to NSYSU for degree programs, exchange programs, research fellowships, or language learning. The vast array of activities provides ample opportunities for domestic students and international students to interact and bridge their understanding of different cultures.

Tamkang is a university of ideals, vision, and creativity. It sees the pursuit of excellence and ongoing innovation as characterizing sustaining its fundamental management philosophy. Over the last 60-plus years, since its foundation, TKU has focused on developing academic research, teaching, and learning services with an innovative spirit. It was the first university in Taiwan to employ Total Quality Management (TQM), which it introduced in 1992. In 2006, the Tamkang Quality Award was initiated to recognize outstanding departments committed to TQM. It has generated impressive results and garnered positive public feedback. TQM efforts were significant in helping TKU win the prestigious National Quality Award in 2009. Since its inception as a university, Tamkang has had six scholar-educators serving as president: Clement C. P. Chang, Yea-Hong Chen, Louis R. Chow, Yun-Shan Lin, Horng-Jinh Chang, Flora C.I. Chang, and the current President, Huan-Chao Keh, who assumed the presidency on August 1, 2018. Huan-Chao Keh president will lead TKU to continue developing and constructing the “Fifth Wave of Tamkang,” enhance Tamkang Culture, refine and activate organization, strive for resources of industry, government and alumni and cooperate with the Ministry of Education’s Higher Education Sprout Project, the government’s “5+2” core industries and artificial intelligence industrial applications, the New South-bound Policy. The new course of development of the “Fifth Wave of Tamkang” was aunched “Transcend period,” and taking the vision of “To Create A Great Tamsui; To Embrace A Smart Future” and implement local links, regional cooperation, international chains and innovation practice. Tamkang’s administrative teams have applied innovative strategies to promote the Three Circles and Five Disciplines of Education. The “Three Circles” refer to Tamkang’s professional curriculum, general curriculum, and extracurricular curriculum, while the “Five Disciplines of Education” include conduct, intelligence, physical education, teamwork, and beauty. TKU has nurtured academic growth through its “Triple Objectives of Education,” which refers to globalization (the spatial pattern of the future), information-oriented education (the life pattern of the future), and future-oriented education (the time frame of the future). With its motto of “Simplicity, Truthfulness, Firmness, and Perseverance,” Tamkang strives to fully develop students’ potential.
