Introduction

St. Scholastica’s College is a Catholic institution. Since its foundation in 1906, St. Scholastica’s College has been managed by the Missionary Benedictine Sisters of Tutzing. Starting with the elementary grades, it admitted high school students in 1907 and opened its collegiate department in 1920. It pioneered formal music education in the Philippines, opening a Conservatory of Music in 1907 which, to the present, has turned out most of the leading women musicians of the country. Within its 3.6 hectare campus is an enrollment of 5,728 (figure as of August 2006) elementary, secondary, college and graduate students.

Please note that only female students are admitted to study at the undergraduate level, while male students are allowed to study only at the graduate level and to certain bachelor degrees.

General Application Procedure

Undergraduate:

  • Secure application permit from the Admissions and Grants Office and proceed to the Business Office for payment of the application and testing fee of PhP500.00. The application fee of applicant from abroad is US$20.00. The fee is non-refundable and non-transferable.
  • Present receipt to the Admissions and Grants Office and secure an application form and two (2) copies of SSC’s recommendation letters.

Submit to the Admissions and Grants Office the following requirements:

  • Accomplished application form with 2×2 colored ID pasted on it
  • Accomplished SSC recommendation forms (from Principal or Dean, counselor, teacher)
  • One 1×1 colored ID picture (identical to the 2×2)
  • Photocopy (one each) of the following:
  • current fourth (4th) year report card
  • birth certificate (NSO)
  • complete records of collegiate grades certified by the school Registrar (for transferees only)
  • marriage contract (for married students)
  • Certification of the school’s grading system from the Principal or the Registrar (only for those with letter grades)
  • Study permit and Alien Certificate of Residence (ACR) [for foreign students only]. The applicant will not be allowed to enroll if these have not been submitted.
  • Secure examination permit from the Admissions and Grants Office.
  • Take the entrance examination on the scheduled date given.
  • Send/Mail back the reply slip attached to the acceptance letter before the specified deadline.
  • If qualified, secure schedule of interview from the Admissions and Grants Office. Come for the interview on the scheduled date given. If waitlisted, call Admissions and Grants Office to inquire about your status on the specified date given.
  • Pay the confirmation fee of PhP2,000.00 (US$50.00 for foreign students) and submit original report card before the specified deadline. Confirmation fees are non-refundable and non-transferable but will be credited to the tuition fees.

Inquiries for admission to SSC by foreign students may be coursed through mail, phone, fax or e-mail.

For immigration requirements of the Philippines, foreign applicants must inquire from the Philippine Consulate/Embassy of the country of origin. If admitted, the applicant must submit a photocopy of the student visa/permit and Alien Certification of Residence (ACR). For those on temporary visitors visa and would wish to pursue tertiary education in SSC, conversion of their visas from temporary visitors visa to student visa should be done. The list of requirements for said conversion may be secured from the Admissions and Grants Office. Foreign students are required to pay the application and testing fee of US$20.00 as well as the one-time Foreign Students fee of US$500.00 upon enrollment.

Non-English speaking applicants must also submit the result of the Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL). A minimum score of 500 on the paper-based test or 170 on the computer-based test is required. Test must have been taken not more than two (2) years ago.

Applicants accepted on the basis of their TOEFL, or SAT results may be required to take the SSC entrance exam upon their arrival in the Philippines for validation purposes.

Graduate:

  • Applicants must have earned a bachelor’s degree or its equivalent from an accredited /reputable institution of higher learning preferably with a major in the graduate area for which the applicant is applying. Undergraduate Grade Point Average (GPAs) or Cumulative Quality Point Averages (CQPAs) required by the respective graduate areas must be complied with prior to admission to the graduate program. Details of academic requirements are found in the graduate program brochures.
  • Applicants who completed their undergraduate degrees from institution other than SSC or applicants without the appropriate degree must have taken or will have to take undergraduate subjects and/or foundation subjects as prescribed in their chosen field or study. The prescribed subjects are found in the brochure of the applicant’s selected program of study.
  • Applicants must pass the graduate school entrance test battery which includes an intelligence, aptitude and in some cases personality test.
  • Non-English speaking applicant must pass the English Placement Test to enter the graduate program or provide scores of at least 500 on a TOEFL paper-based test taken within the previous two (2) years. Student must have their official TOEFL scores sent directly to SSC’s Admissions and Grants Office prior to their registration at SSC. In the event that an applicant has not taken the TOEFL test, enrollment in the prescribed English classes is required upon registration for the first and all subsequent terms at SSC.
  • Preferably applicants must have had at least two (2) years of work experience in the course/program applied for.

An interview of the applicant by the Chairperson of the graduate program may be required prior to application.

  • Secure application permit from the Admissions and Grants Office and proceed to the Business Office for payment of the application and testing fee of PhP500.00.
  • Present receipt to the Admissions and Grants Office and secure an application form and two (2) copies of SSC’s recommendation letters.

Submit to the Admissions and Grants Office the following requirements:

  • Accomplished application form with colored ID (passport size pasted on the upper right hand of the form);
  • One (1) additional ID picture (passport size);
  • Accomplished SSC recommendation forms (one each from the applicant’s former teacher, the most recent employer or the last employer for those who have stopped working prior to program application);
  • One (1) certified true copy of the applicant’s Transcript of Records (TOR);
  • Study permit and Alien Certificate of Residence (ACR) [for foreign students only].

The applicant will not be allowed to enroll if these have not been submitted.

  • Secure examination permit from the Admissions and Grants Office.
  • Take the entrance examination on the scheduled date given. Latecomers will not be allowed to take the examination and instead will be rescheduled.
  • Send/Mail back the reply slip attached to the acceptance letter before the specified deadline.
