2021 Entrance Scholarships at Donghua University (DHU)

Donghua University (DHU), formerly China Textile University, was founded in 1951. Located in the downtown area in Shanghai and adjacent to Hongqiao Economic Development Zone, DHU is one of the state-key universities directly under the Ministry of Education of China. Its feature disciplines, such as Fashion Design, Textile Engineering, International Trade, Material Science, and Information Technology have received high reputation both domestically and abroad.

DHU is a multi-disciplinary university with a wide range of undergraduate and graduate degree programs across a vast field of disciplines including engineering, economics, management, literature and art, laws, science, and education. It has 13 colleges and schools, offering 54 undergraduate programs, 59 master’s degree programs, 30 doctoral degree programs, and 5 postdoctoral research programs, among which are 6 state key disciplines and 7 Shanghai municipal key disciplines. Academic achievements have found applications in areas such as aeronautics, military science, new material, architecture, and environment protection. The number of valid patents ranks top 12 among Chinese colleges and universities.

There are more than 2,800 faculty and staff, and over 30,000 enrolled students at DHU. The employment rate maintains 100% for post graduates and over 95% for undergraduates in the past several years. So far, DHU has established cooperation with over 100 well-known oversea universities, research institutions and enterprise. DHU also successfully held international conferences and forums in the fields such as textile, fashion, and material.

Eligibility

Undergraduate Programs

  • Under the age of 25 with a high school diploma

Master’s program

  • Under the age of 35 with a Bachelor’s degree

Ph.D. program

  • Under the age of 40 with a Master’s degree
Requirements on Language Credentials

Chinese-taught Programs:

  • HSK Certificate of level 5 (at least 180 score) or above
  • *It’s highly recommended to submit HSKK Intermediate Level certificate (at least 60 score) or above with HSK Certificate of level 5 (at least 180 score).
  • For applicants of Chinese-taught programs, HSK certificate can be exempted if the entire previous academic curriculum was taught in Chinese. However, a formal letter of reference from the previous high school/university with official seals or signatures must be submitted at the application.
  • Scholarship applicants unable to submit an HSK certificate of level 5 (at least 180 score), will be eligible to apply for a one-year Chinese language/ preparatory study with the HSK certificate of level 3 or above.
  • Any language credentials submitted for application have to be obtained within the recent two years.

English-taught Programs:

  • Certificate of IELTS 6.0, TOEFL IBT 80, or above
  • For applicants of English-taught programs, IELTS or TOEFL certificates can be exempted if the entire previous academic curriculum was taught in English. However, a formal letter of reference from the previous high school/university with official seals or signatures must be submitted at the application.
  • Native English speakers do not need to provide the language certificate when applying for English-taught programs.
  • Any language credentials submitted for application have to be obtained within the recent two years.
Application Procedure

1. Check your application eligibility

  • Check if DHU offers the program you plan to learn, as well as your eligibility to apply for the scholarships.

2. Apply online for the scholarships

4. Submit one set of the hard copies to DHU

  • One set of hard copies of the complete application materials has to be submitted by post or in person. The materials have to be received by Donghua University before March 31, 2021.

5. Pay the application fee to DHU

  • Check your application status from your DHU online account and pay the application fee (only after your hard copies are received).
  • Currently enrolled DHU students or DHU alumni are exempted from the application fee.
  • Payment can be made online by Visa/Master Card, Alipay or Wechat Pay, or in person with RMB cash or UnionPay card to DHU’s office.

  • Passport Copy (along with the visa page, if the applicant is not in his/her home country)
  • Graduation certificate of the higher secondary school and the transcripts of all its grades/semesters. Pending certificate & transcripts of all finished grades/semesters formally issued by this high school (with official seals or signatures) are acceptable for the application.
  • Personal Statement

  • Two Recommendation Letters

  • Please note that during the month of February, the International Student Admissions Department might not respond as quickly as usual due to the winter vacation and spring semester’s enrollment week. Nevertheless, applicants are encouraged to complete the online application and send the hard copies of application materials to the university during this period.
