ARES is the federation of higher education establishments of the Wallonia-Brussels Federation.
Its missions consist of:
- guarantee the public service mission of general interest of higher education
- support institutions and ensure their overall coordination in their teaching, research and community service missions
- encourage collaboration between them, while respecting their autonomy
Criteria
Applying for an ARES scholarship is completely free. ARES does not charge any fees at any stage of the application or selection process. You can report any problem concerning people or companies who claim to act on behalf of ARES and request any payment by e-mail to scholarships-cooperation@ares-ac.be .
For his / her application to be admissible, the candidate must:
- Resides and works in his country at the time of the submission of the case;
- Or a national of one of the following countries: Benin, Bolivia, Burkina Faso, Burundi, Cambodia, Cameroon, Cuba, Ecuador, Ethiopia ( only for training in English ), Haiti, Madagascar, Morocco, Niger, Peru , Philippines, DR Congo, Rwanda, Senegal, Vietnam ;
- Either under 40 years old for the courses, and under 45 years old for the internships , and this at the time of the beginning of the training;
- Either carrier · Teuse a comparable degree to a degree 2 e cycle of the Belgian university. However, for certain training courses, different requirements may be stated, which will then be specified below;
- Evidence of a relevant professional occupation in a developing country of at least two years after the end of his second university cycle , or three years after the end of his studies when the candidate holds a 3 degree th cycle from a university in an industrialized country;
- Has a good knowledge of written and spoken French. For courses organized in another language, it is necessary to have a good knowledge of the language of the course, written and spoken. In addition, the candidate will be asked to commit to learning French in order to be able to participate in daily life in Belgium;
- Apply for only one training .
Candidates do not need to first obtain admission to one of the French-speaking universities in Belgium to be able to apply for ARES scholarships.
No follow-up will be given to files that:
- are incomplete;
- are sent by post, e-mail or fax;
- are submitted in GIRAF outside the deadlines;
- are not completed in the language in which the training is given;
- are not accompanied by the documents that must be attached (certified copy of the diploma, etc.);
- do not meet one of the compliance criteria clearly mentioned in the form (copy of certified diploma, age, professional experience, etc.).

How to submit a scholarship file?
Please note, the application procedure is now done online via the GIRAF platform:
- you must first create an account on the GIRAF platform via this link . This account will then be validated (a few hours to a few days) by ARES and you will receive a confirmation email to create a password and log in.
- Once your account has been validated, you can access the application form via the Competitive calls tab of your GIRAF profile. Please note, you only have to click the “Start an application” button once. Specialization courses and internships ” . You will then find your form no matter what in the My tasks table of this same Competitive calls tab .
- you can complete your form in several times, as long as you use the option “Save as draft”. You will find your form each time in the My tasks table of the Competitive calls tab in GIRAF. From the moment you click on “Submit my application”, your file is sent to ARES and you can no longer modify it. You can still view it in the My submitted files table .
Deadline for submitting applications
- applications must be submitted via GIRAF by 5 February 2021 at the latest.
- Please note, applications for the following internships must be submitted via GIRAF by January 15, 2021 at the latest:
- Internship in geography information system
- Internship in quality control and assurance of drugs and health products
- Research initiation internship for strengthening health systems
Please pay attention to the following
- no paper file will be accepted, the procedure is now carried out entirely online.
- Only application files completed in the language in which the training is given will be taken into consideration;
- no additional file sent subsequently will be taken into consideration;
- all successful and reserve candidates will receive an email after selection (June 2021). Unsuccessful candidates will receive an email by the end of June 2021 at the latest;
- no follow-up will be given to files which do not meet the admissibility criteria clearly mentioned on the site (certified diploma, age, professional experience, etc.).
