As an education major you’ll learn the skills you need to become an effective and qualified teacher. A teacher’s job is all-important in our increasingly fast-paced society because the knowledge and attention each student needs is constantly increasing. If you are creative, dedicated, enthusiastic and compassionate, this might be the major for you. Although much of your course work will be general education material, you’ll be required to choose a specific grade level you’d like to teach. Choices usually include some variation of early childhood education, primary school, secondary school and special education (special education is centered on the education of behaviorally difficult, mentally disabled and physically disabled students). In the early grades teachers are responsible for giving instruments in all the basic subjects (reading, writing, science, mathematics) as well as overseeing the general development of the class and of each of their students; while to teach in higher grades you’ll be required to choose a specific subject (e.g. Bachelor or Master of Education in Mathematics).
Preparation in this major trains the student to design, develop and implement instructional programs. The student will learn the most effective ways to communicate with students so they may learn. The curriculum and instruction major learns about how children develop and learn in order to most effectively teach them.
Individuals in this major have an interest in teaching and continuing their involvement in the area of education. As professional instructors they will contribute to keeping today’s children well prepared for the future through education and perhaps a little personal creativity. These people enjoy the prospect of teaching and making as good of a positive impact on their students’ futures as possible.
Education is not only totally relevant to the development of Myanmar, but more importantly it is essential. Often teachers in Myanmar do not have proper qualifications to be a teacher and are hired because the demand is very high. This is especially true for rural areas that lack the ability to attract qualified staff to schools and universities in those locations. Consequently there is a growing divide between urban and rural educational standards, leading to the marginalization of ethnic minorities in rural areas.
The education system in Myanmar needs to embrace new teaching methods to replace rote learning. Therefore, teachers need to be qualified as teachers as well as knowledgeable in a subject areas. Many of the difficulties that Myanmar students face when studying at university abroad are related to different learning styles. Students are expected to work independently as well as in groups, be able to give presentations, be able to research without copying and be able to give their own opinions about difficult and controversial topics. The focus is much more on individual thinking instead of repeating the thoughts of others written in textbooks.
Graduates with education degrees can contribute greatly to the development of Myanmar by instilling new critical thinking skills in young minds. This will certainly contribute towards ethnic reconciliation, modernization, and general peace and prosperity in the country.
Why is the subject you studied (or are studying now) important for Myanmar?
Education, which plays a fundamental role to stabilize and develop a country, is immensely significant in Myanmar. I believe that education is a basic component that produces a good citizen and a good citizen uses his/her knowledge, skills, understanding and common sense to change his/her country to a better situation. Thus, education, which I currently majoring is very crucial for Myanmar’s development in all factors.
How have you been able to use your education after you graduated (or how will you in the future)?
Indeed, I can use my education in various fields not only in education institution or setting. For instance, to be an effective teacher, an individual is not only responsible for entering the classroom and give lecture; however, he or she is the main person to initiate human relations with his/her students or in other word, to meet or fulfill the students’ psychosocial needs in various aspects. “A real and an effective teacher can even change the whole world not only a country”.
What are the real job opportunities to work for Myanmar with your degree?
Teaching and other educational and social related concerns are all job opportunities that I can work for Myanmar with my degree. I presume that teaching is the most enjoyable, entertaining, humorous, and beneficial job that I can produce individual student to be a good citizen through my teaching. For example, creating a pleasant, warming, friendly, inviting, social and emotional attaching atmosphere in the classroom as well as outside the classroom is vitally significant for my job to be recognized as well as me myself to be endorsed as an effective teacher.
Early childhood Education is a major taken by students who wish to work with infants and young children. Graduates can work in schools, childcare programs or institutional settings. A major in early childhood education will be able to preliminarily evaluate young children to determine if they have special needs such as learning, behavioral, physical or emotional disabilities. Early identification of these problems is critical to the continued growth and development of the child.
At the heart of the Educational Psychology major are the whys and hows of human learning. We learn in classrooms, in office environments, in parks and museums. How we learn, though—under what conditions, under what circumstances—there’s the mystery, the research, and the major. It’s much more complicated than this, though; there is a whole batch of other issues and questions that surround the Educational Psychology major and the learning process in general. The practical applications of an educational psychology major are numerous, especially with today’s great focus on education.
Counseling is known as one of the helping professions. Counselors assist in behavior modification, and provide emotional support and guidance to people in all walks of life. As a counselor, you might work with abused children, people with drug and alcohol dependencies, or the homeless. Or you might work in a school advising students on college decisions and teaching stress reduction techniques. Counseling is usually a concentration within a psychology major, or is overseen by a psychology department. Generally, this major requires a foundation in biology and statistics. You’ll begin with general psychology in your first year. From there, you’ll move on to the classes in abnormal psychology, personality, psychological testing and evaluation, and behavior modification. With this major, you will probably need an advanced degree to operate as a licensed counselor in a private or group practice.
Elementary education is a major for people who want to become teachers in an elementary school. Students of this major further concentrate their specialty on either special or regular educational teaching services. Although graduates take many education courses, they also are generally expected to match these courses with a major in another academic field (according to the subjects they wish to teach). A specialization in secondary education leads to certification for teaching at the high school level. Students are introduced to a variety of philosophies and approaches to secondary education through coursework and field experiences and to a wide variety of students from diverse backgrounds. Reflective teaching at the secondary level is important to ensure that pupils engage in maximal educational experiences as they prepare to enter adulthood. Professional educators are needed who are able to meet the challenges presented by a changing society, while adhering to sound instructional practice. This major generally requires that a student also obtain a major in an academic discipline that is taught at the secondary school level (e.g., Social Studies, English, Biology, Physics or Mathematics).
Special Education is centered on the education of behaviorally difficult, mentally disabled, physically disabled and learning impaired students. A specialized kind of teacher, this person must have great patience with children with all kinds of conditions, and is their responsibility to ensure that the education these children receive is a thorough and complete one. In this major, many individuals in this field will be presented the challenge of educating students with significant learning disabilities. Students in this major have a high desire to help students, children and adults, who require special attention and increased levels of support in order to become productive citizens.
The program aims to train competent professional and research oriented counselor who are able to promote optimal human development and to apply scientific research methods to find improved ways of helping those receiving counseling.
Curriculum and instruction are central to educational improvement, constituting the basis of teaching and learning. The study of curriculum and instruction not only entails content, methodology and assessment but also entails an understanding of why curriculum and instruction are important in affecting change both within and outside of schools. In today’s climate of educational reform, new educational leaders are needed who are prepared to take on increased responsibilities in the planning, implementation, research, and evaluation of curriculum, instruction and assessment. This is accomplished through critical thought, research and reflective practice related to: teaching and learning, curriculum, instruction, policy and teacher education. The program is particularly focused on understanding how curriculum and instruction can be constructed and applied in the context of educational reform with diverse populations of students
The Master of Arts in Development Education trains students to become development educators. The program provides a solid grounding in the philosophy of education, people development, the dynamics of teaching, research, and management. It also gives students opportunities to apply and test learning through various educational experiences within schools, business and development organizations, social enterprises, and private and public institutions. The students’ formation is distinctly education and people-development-oriented. The program prepares students for education beyond the classroom because educators are needed wherever a development issue is involved. Students are trained to be excellent communicators, confident of themselves and their abilities.
It aims to prepare teachers and highly qualified professionals who can provide significant learning experiences for young children (from birth to 8 years old). The program aims also to investigate historical, current and projected issues central to early childhood education.
Education Administrators usually serve in educational management positions, mostly as principals or superintendents. To be successful as an administrator, you must have great communication and leadership skills. Your studies in this major will expose you to the fundamentals of management, and you’ll learn how to mobilize resources, supervise personnel, and handle school finance and law. You’ll learn the basics of organizational change, and you’ll study international perspectives on education. Computer applications are becoming more and more important to schools, and this major will expose you to many of them. Besides teaching you how to be a good leader, a major in Education Administration will also teach you about the many factors that impact education—factors such as economics and politics. You’ll share ideas and perspectives with other administrators to expand your conceptions of education. Education Administration programs are generally offered as master’s programs, where students have been teachers for some period of time and need an administrative degree to move further in their careers or turn them in a new direction.
The major in Educational Measurement and Evaluation is designed for persons who plan to teach course in educational measurement, statistics and evaluation in colleges and universities; to occupy upper-level leadership/management positions in educational, governmental, and other agencies concerned with measurement, statistics, and evaluation; and to design and execute research studies utilizing educational measurement and evaluation.

With this graduate program you will be able to teach the subject you choose to focus on and in order to do that you be required to take courses both in this subject and in teaching methodology, psychology and other education related subjects.
The master Pre-School Education provides opportunities for educators to experience personal and professional growth and development in the field of preschool education. Educators study the historical, philosophical and legal development of early childhood programs and the rationale why each academic program must be designed and implemented with the pre-schooler’s needs and potentials in mind.
Sociology of education is the study of how social institutions and individual experiences affect educational processes and outcomes. By many in society, education is understood to be a means of overcoming handicaps, achieving greater equality and acquiring wealth and status for all. Education is perceived as a place where children can develop according to their unique needs and potentialities. It is also the best possible means of achieving greater equality in society. The purpose of education then, must be to develop every individual to their full potential and grant them a chance to achieve as much in life as their natural abilities allow. This promising vision, however, does not unfold into reality. The reality, according to many sociologists, is that education works towards a larger goal than that of the individual and its purpose is to maintain social stability, through the reproduction of inequality. What the goal of this stability is differs depending on which sociological perspective one uses to approach the issue.
It is designed to equip education professionals with requisite knowledge, competencies, values and skills to meet the unique learning needs of special children. The program aims to: prepare teachers for work with special children in the classroom, home, hospital and other related settings; enable students to investigate historical, current and projected issues central to special education; enable students to undertake research that will improve the practice of providing education for special children; and form competent and professionally trained special education teachers.
The MA in Education Major in Student Affairs and Services Management program is designed to prepare students for professional careers in student affairs and services in institutions of higher education. Such careers are typically found in one or more of the following areas: admissions, career services, financial aid, housing and residence life, international student affairs, commuter services, judicial services, orientation services, registration and records, student activities, student services, and sports and athletics. It is built on the concept that student services are basic partners of the academe in working toward the total development of individuals. The program combines experiences that are practical, specialized, and individual with those that are broad and theoretical. Research skills and an understanding of the relevant literature for the discipline are part of the program.
This program aims to develop competence in the teaching of English at the secondary and tertiary levels. It combines courses in English, Literature and Education.
