· We offer over 40 majors in Arts, Business, Communication, Chinese Medicine, Creative Arts, Science, and Social Sciences, plus a number of cross/ transdisciplinary/ personalised pathway programmes. You can view our full list of programmes we offer here.

· Our Arts, Business, Communication, Science and Social Sciences programmes adopt broad-based admission. This means students only need to apply to a degree programme at the time of application, e.g. Year 1 of BBA, instead of Year 1 of BBA-Marketing.

Entrance requirements

· Minimum entrance requirement: (One of the following)

o completion of IBDP or SAT 1190 with high school graduation certificate

o GCE Advanced Level (AL)/ International Advanced Level (IAL):

Grade E or above in three AL/ IAL subjects; or

Grade E or above in two AL/ IAL subjects plus two Advanced Supplementary Level (ASL) subjects (Not including Chinese and English Language subjects. The same subject cannot be counted at both the AL and ASL.)

o Basic Education High School Examination or Matriculation Examination; or

o Successful completion of one year’s study in a bachelor’s degree programme at a recognised university

· English requirement: TOEFL 79 (iBT) or IELTS Overall Band 6.0

· Chinese language proficiency is not required except for Chinese Medicine, Translation and Chinese Language and Literature.

Timeline

· There are 3 rounds of application:

  • Early Round: 2 Oct to 10 Nov 2024
  • Main Round: 11 Nov 2024 to 31 Jan 2025
  • Extended Round: 1 Feb to 30 May 2025

· Applications received in early round will be shortlisted for advance evaluation, with admission offers released from late December onwards.

· Students interested in scholarships are strongly advised to apply in the Early Round.

Application procedures

· Interested students should complete the online application at http://admissions.hkbu.edu.hk/ug/apply.

· Each applicant may choose up to 2 programmes. Applicants will only be considered for their 2nd choice if they are rejected by their 1st choice.

· Some programmes, including BBA, BBA-Accounting, Communication, and several programs in Creative Arts, do not consider 2nd choice, please refer to ‘Remarks’ section on the individual programme webpage for details.

· Documents required for the application:

  1. Passport copy/copy of national ID (if passport is not yet available)
  2. Latest transcript
  3. Predicted grades (compulsory for IB, recommended for GCEAL, optional for others)
  4. English test result (if available, otherwise just input the tentative test date)

· For documents that are confidential to students, please send them to me or ardirect@hkbu.edu.hk by email quoting the application number.

· Personal statement is not compulsory but encouraged, especially if the applicants wish to be considered for scholarship.

· Reference letter is optional but welcome. There are no requirements or guidelines on the content or quantity.

· A handful of programmes, particularly those related to creative arts, require portfolio, please refer to the individual programme webpage for details.

· Shortlisted applicants might be invited for online interview/audition.

Admissions scholarship

· Our admission scholarships are merit-based and offered in various amounts. The full scholarship is composed of a 100% tuition plus living subsidies. Less competitive candidates may be considered for 100% tuition, half scholarship and other entrance scholarships.

· In addition to their academic performance, applicants will also be evaluated based on their non-academic performance, personal attributes, and interview performance.

· No separate application is required for scholarship; competitive applicants will be considered automatically (if appropriate).

· Award of scholarship is subject to competition and availability.

HKBU Students with Exceptional Talent Direct Admission Scheme (SETDAS)

· SETDAS is designed to give due recognition to applicants from any country participating in the Belt and Road Initiative who are with exceptional talents which may not be fully reflected in their academic performance.
