Tamkang is a university of ideals, vision, and creativity. It sees the pursuit of excellence and ongoing innovation as characterizing sustaining its fundamental management philosophy. Over the last 60-plus years, since its foundation, TKU has focused on developing academic research, teaching, and learning services with an innovative spirit. It was the first university in Taiwan to employ Total Quality Management (TQM), which it introduced in 1992. In 2006, the Tamkang Quality Award was initiated to recognize outstanding departments committed to TQM. It has generated impressive results and garnered positive public feedback. TQM efforts were significant in helping TKU win the prestigious National Quality Award in 2009.
Since its inception as a university, Tamkang has had six scholar-educators serving as president: Clement C. P. Chang, Yea-Hong Chen, Louis R. Chow, Yun-Shan Lin, Horng-Jinh Chang, Flora C.I. Chang, and the current President, Huan-Chao Keh, who assumed the presidency on August 1, 2018. Huan-Chao Keh president will lead TKU to continue developing and constructing the “Fifth Wave of Tamkang,” enhance Tamkang Culture, refine and activate organization, strive for resources of industry, government and alumni and cooperate with the Ministry of Education’s Higher Education Sprout Project, the government’s “5+2” core industries and artificial intelligence industrial applications, the New South-bound Policy. The new course of development of the “Fifth Wave of Tamkang” was launched “Transcend period,” and taking the vision of “To Create A Great Tamsui; To Embrace A Smart Future” and implement local links, regional cooperation, international chains and innovation practice.
Tamkang’s administrative teams have applied innovative strategies to promote the Three Circles and Five Disciplines of Education. The “Three Circles” refer to Tamkang’s professional curriculum, general curriculum, and extracurricular curriculum, while the “Five Disciplines of Education” include conduct, intelligence, physical education, teamwork, and beauty. TKU has nurtured academic growth through its “Triple Objectives of Education,” which refers to globalization (the spatial pattern of the future), information-oriented education (the life pattern of the future), and future-oriented education (the time frame of the future). Guidelines for TKU Entrance Scholarships for Outstanding Overseas Students
- To promote globalization of Tamkang University (hereinafter referred to as “TKU”), the Guidelines for TKU Entrance Scholarships for Outstanding Overseas Students (hereinafter referred to as the “Guidelines”) are adopted for the purpose of encouraging outstanding international students to study at TKU.
- The scholarships are provided by the subsidies from the budgets allocated by TKU.
- The scholarships will be provided to the new overseas degree students who have officially enrolled in TKU and have been approved by TKU’s Scholarship Review Committee.
- The Entrance Scholarships for Outstanding Overseas Students provided by TKU are as follows:
- Entrance Scholarship for Outstanding International Students Scholarship (16 students)
- Entrance Scholarships for Students from Malaysia (19 students)
- Scholarship for Outstanding Master’s and Doctoral International Students (College of Science/ College of Engineering/Program taught in Englsih:2 for each institution)
- Entrance Scholarships for Students from Hong Kong (19~23 students)
- Entrance Scholarship for Students from Mainland China (students)

- Content of the Scholarship:
- Entrance Scholarship for Outstanding International Students Scholarship, Entrance Scholarships for Students from Malaysia, Scholarship for Outstanding Master’s and Doctoral International Students, Entrance Scholarships for Students from Macau: The scholarship amounts to the tuition and miscellaneous fees of one academic year.
- Entrance Scholarships for Students from Hong Kong: The scholarship amounts to the tuition and miscellaneous fees of two academic years (1 quota) or one academic year (2 quotas).
- Entrance Scholarship for Students from Mainland China: The scholarship amounts to the tuition and miscellaneous fees of two academic years for doctoral students. And for undergraduate and master students is awarded NTD 15,000.
- Entrance Scholarship for Students from Thailand: The scholarship amounts to NTD 5,000 per month for two academic years for master’s students.
- Entrance Scholarship for Students from Indonesia: The scholarship covers full tuition and miscellaneous fees for one academic year.
- Application review/evaluation procedures:
- Entrance Scholarship for Outstanding International Students Scholarship: Applicants must mark the scholarship type they are applying for on the entrance application form. The application information of the students permitted to enter TKU will be submitted to the Scholarship Review Committee for the resolution on the scholarship awarded name list.
- Entrance Scholarships for Students from Malaysia: The name lists of scholarship candidates will be submitted by Universiti Tunku Abdul Rahman, New Era College, Southern University College, One World Hanxing Academy of Journalism & Communication and the Tamkang University Taiwan Alumni Association of Malaysia, which will be submitted to the Scholarship Review Committee for the resolution on the scholarship awarded name list.
- Scholarship for Outstanding Master’s and Doctoral International Students: Applicants must mark the scholarship type they are applying for on the entrance application form. The application information of the students permitted to enter TKU will be submitted to the Office of International and Cross-Strait Affairs by each applying department or organization and thereafter submitted to the Scholarship Review Committee for the resolution on the scholarship awarded name list.
- Entrance Scholarships for Students from Hong Kong: The name list of scholarship candidates will be submitted by the Tamkang University Taiwan Alumni Association of Hong Kong, which will be submitted to the Scholarship Review Committee for the resolution on the scholarship awarded name list.
- Entrance Scholarship for Students from Mainland China: The new students from Mainland China will be automatically listed on the scholarship application name list, which will be submitted to the Mainland China Student Scholarship Committee for the resolution on the scholarship awarded name list.
- Entrance Scholarships for Students from Macau: The name list of scholarship candidates will be submitted by the Tamkang University Taiwan Alumni Association of Macau, which will be submitted to the Scholarship Review Committee for the resolution on the scholarship awarded name list.
- Entrance Scholarships for Students from Thailand: Applicants must choose which scholarship they want to apply for on the TKU application form. If accepted, the applicant’s information will then be submitted to the Scholarship Review Committee for review and decide the list of scholarship recipients.
- Entrance Scholarship for Students from Indonesia: The Tamkang University Alumni Association of Indonesia will recommend scholarship candidates to the Scholarship Review Committee to review and decide the list of scholarship recipients.
- Applicants must submit either Chinese proficiency certification (TOCFL, HSK, etc.) or English proficiency certification (TOEFL, IELTS, TOEIC, etc.) along with their applications for admission to TKU.
- The student who has been awarded the amounting to the tuition and miscellaneous expenses of two academic years shall meet the following standards from the second academic year after his/her entrance to TKU if he/she intends to continue receiving funds from his/her initially awarded scholarship:
- Academic Performance: The average grade of undergraduate students in the preceding academic year must be 70 or above, and the average grade of graduate school students in the preceding academic year must be 80 or above.
- Behavioral Performance: Students must not have any negative record in their behavioral performance, and their behavioral grade must be 80 or above every semester.
- The scholarship shall cease to be provided from the next month of the occurrence of any of the following situations:
- The student leaves Taiwan for purposes other than academic needs and fails to return to Taiwan after thirty days upon the expected time of return, and leaves TKU without the prior signed approval from his/her advising professor and the authorization from his/her department.
- The student breaches the regulations adopted by TKU and is given a major demerit or a more serious punishment as resolved by the Student Disciplinary Committee.
- The student violates relevant laws and regulations of Taiwan.
- If you are suspended, expelled or quit school, the amount of scholarship will be counted according to the tuition-fee-returning table.
- Each student can only be awarded one scholarship hereunder.
- The student who has been awarded a large amount of scholarship funds provided by a relevant institution of the Taiwanese government cannot apply for any scholarship hereunder.
- The Guidelines must be approved by the Committee of Internationalization and International Exchange and thereafter submitted to the President of TKU for approval. The Guidelines will be implemented on the date of promulgation after being approved by the President of TKU. The same applies to the amendments to the Guidelines.
