About Us

Ho Chi Minh City Open University (HCMCOU) was founded on July 26th, 1993, according to the Decision 389/Ttg signed by the Prime Minister on the foundation of Ho Chi Minh City Institute of Open Education established on June 15th, 1990 according to the Decision 451/Ttg signed by the Minister of Education and Training. HCMCOU is the first institution to offer an open training with the aim of implementing the directions of the Communist Party and Government in socializing education and multiplying training types.

HCMCOU is a higher education institution offering a variety of programs ranging from on-site to distance learning and learning at satellite academic centers, it aims to meet various learning needs of society and to contribute enriching the country’s human resources.

There are currently more than 32,000 students enrolling in daytime, nighttime, and distance-learning courses at HCMCOU. The university has, thus far, granted approximately 31,000 bachelor degrees and more than 1,000 master degrees.

Scholarships

To encourage learners, Ho Chi Minh City Open University has a diversified scholarship system suitable for learners from bachelor to PhD degree. The Scholarships are reviewed and awarded regularly throughout the year.

Open Talent Scholarship (For Bachelor Level)

The scholarship is considered and granted to the learners during their study duration at Ho Chi Minh City Open University, specifically 04 years for Bachelor Level.

Requirement:

– GPA year 12: from score 9.0/10, or get from score 35 for IB exam.

– IELTS (Academic) 7.0 or more (no band below 6.0) or equivalent.

– SAT 800 or more

– Pass the face-to-face interview with the University’s Scholarship Council

The number of scholarships and value:

– The scholarship of program issued degrees by Ho Chi Minh City Open University: 3 scholarships/major/year, bachelor (100%, 70%, 50% of tuition for each scholarship)

– The scholarship of affiliate program with Rouen Program: 2 scholarships (70%, 50% of tuition for each scholarship in 3 first years).

– The scholarship of affiliate program with Flinders Program: 2 scholarships (70%, 50% of tuition for each scholarship in stage 1 in Vietnam). * Be allowed to participate in Vietnamese foundation course for 3 months (excluded in scholarship, excluded in tuition)

Fellowship Scholarship (Only for Doctor Level)

Requirement:

– Be the learner of Doctor level

– Be offered in teaching assistant position of 8 classes per year or research assistant in English

– Pass face-to-face interview with the University’s Scholarchip Council

Sholarship value:

– Full-ride scholarship during the study program

– Living expenses support Scheme: VND 10,000,000/month

Open Bright Scholarship (For Bachelor Level)

Requirement:

– The learners worldwide aged 18-40 years who wish to study at Ho Chi Minh City Open University, with a letter of recommendation from the previous school or a letter of recommendation from the local area.

– Scholarship application stated clearly the reason to apply for Open Bright scholarship and study, work plan after receiving the scholarship and graduation, will be appreciated by HCMC Open University.

– Priority is given to learners who have a record of participating in recognized community activities (with certificates), in-depth activities, quality of activities high appreciated by Ho Chi Minh City Open University after reviewing the profile. Priority will be given to learners who have won prizes from internationally recognized social and community activities.

– English proficiency minimum IELTS 5.5 (for the study programs taught in English)

– Vietnamese proficiency minimum B2 (for the study programs taught in Vietnamese)

* All learners are required to attend Vietnamese course of Ho Chi Minh City Open University after taking a test of Vietnamese proficiency.

The number of scholarships and value:

– Full scholarship during study period according to the program’s regulation.

– The number of scholarships is adjusted annually by the school

* Are allowed to attend Vietnamese foundation course 3 months (not included in the scholarship, tuition fee)
